Letter from our chair
The Department of Family Medicine and Community Health at the University of Miami Miller School of Medicine is one of the first academic departments of its kind in the country. The department has been a leader in the area of family medicine education and community oriented healthcare for more than 40 years. We are committed to cultural diversity and in serving one of the most diverse communities in the nation.
We encourage you to browse through our website, whether you are looking for a place in the residency training program, a rotation as an undergraduate in our Family Medicine medical school clerkship, research opportunities in primary care, our international health education programs, or in identifying one of our clinical practices for your own personal healthcare needs.
Research in primary care is an important part of our mission and is conducted to help provide new clinical information, develop novel approaches to preventive healthcare, evaluate new medications and vaccines being introduced to the marketplace and analyze the cost and effectiveness of healthcare treatments to the public.
We have a talented group of faculty and post graduate residents and staff who complement the exciting opportunities for learning in one of most outstanding academic research environments in the country and with the extensive resources of Jackson Memorial Hospital, the largest public hospital in the United States.
We welcome your feedback on our new website and look forward to serving your needs.
Robert Schwartz, M.D.
Professor and Chair
