Booker T. Washington High School Mentorship Program

About 25 students from the local Booker T. Washington High School’s Health Professions academy intern with our residents and staff at family medicine clinic in Overtown. This project aims to promote minority student interest in health careers, and to promote cultural awareness among our Family Medicine residents through exposure to local students.

Overtown Youth Center Health Education Program

Residents meet with elementary students at the Overtown Youth Center, with oversight from the center’s ARNP, and talk with them about various health topics. Some topics include asthma, smoking cessation, diabetes, substance abuse, diet and exercise, hypertension, first aid/CPR, sexual abuse, heart disease, anger management, HIV/AIDS, sickle cell disease, STDs.
